Due to the lack of space on the fire ring the adults decided to use on of the grills to cook their food on. They had 3 big pots they had to cook with, so they needed the space.

Gerhardt seems impressed at how fast the adults got a large fire going, (and Ted only mentioned how using proper kindling and fire lays makes things go quicker a couple times).
